If we do not know how to respect Mother Earth, we do not know how to respect ourselves”.
Shri Mataji Nirmala Devi 1997 – May 25, Cabella, Italy
As Sahaja Yogis, we know that Shri Bhoomi Devi is a sentient being, a deity. Shri Mataji Herself said that in this lifetime Mother Earth was Her Guru exemplifying all the qualities of a mother. She nourishes, comforts and nurtures us. As a mother, she tolerates our behavior with patience and forbearance. She is allowing us to pollute her atmosphere, lands, rivers and seas. She is tolerating corporate greed arrogantly depleting her resources and disseminating her forests. It is this same arrogance that makes us think we can destroy her. A Goddess, She who contains the kundalini of the universe. She is merely waiting for us to mature and become aware of our actions and the harm we are inflicting on her and ultimately, ourselves.
Slowly the collective consciousness of humanity is growing in this awareness as can be seen by the formation of many environmental groups, protests, etc. As yogis our enlightened collective attention can strongly contribute and guide in subtle and vibratory ways, to working out this environmental crisis humanity has created. For instance, on the 22nd of April, initiated by our Green Guardians, a group of yogis recently gathered for a beautiful seminar in Mongiardino to celebrate a Puja to Adi Bhoomi Devi on the occasion of the International Earth Day. The vibrations and the connection with the beauty of the nature around us were magnificent. It was the start of a new sustainability journey.
As well as our awareness as yogis that we are one with the creation and of our direct connection to Shri Bhoomi Devi, it is also our responsibility to be role models in showing our respect to her. To not increase pollution and to do all we can to help her thrive again. Hence the formation of the Green Guardians. We need to contribute to the growing awareness about our ecological footprint and to an increasing understanding of its implications on the planet. If we as yogis show concern for the health of the planet, understand which forces drive the degradation of nature and combine this with our power of love this would result in tremendously powerful and dedicated action.
For Sahaja Yogis, Cabella is the spiritual capital of the world. It is a living lab where we could solve the problems of our world. That is why the Green Guardians, a team of young and enthusiast yogis, wish to transform the Borbera Valley into an example of sustainable living, which can emanate a power of change all over the world.
The dream that the Green Guardians share is that in the future the Sahaja Yoga community in the Valley will run fully on renewable energy and produce zero waste. The project The living valley is a start. It already biologically produces some of the food supplied to the Cabella International Sahaja School.
The next important step is to reduce the use of plastic. At the upcoming Adi Shakti Puja, we can buy beautiful stainless steel reusable water bottles at the bar, which can be easily refilled with fresh water! The revenues of this sale will help sustain the future eco-friendly projects of the World Foundation. So don’t forget to get one and play your part.
If you want to be part of the journey, we would love to welcome you as a new Guardian! So next time you see us assiduously sorting garbage at the trash bins or working in the garden, come and give a helping hand.
