Over fifty musicians from the East and West; a wide variety of genres, theatre and dance performances, exhibitions, meditation workshops. The Culture of the Spirit Festival, an international event celebrating art and spirituality, returns this year for its ninth edition on Saturday 22nd and Sunday 23rd July, in the splendid setting of Val Borbera (Chiappeti, Albera Ligure, Alessandria), a green oasis in the Torino-Milan-Genova triangle. The festival, hosted by the Shri Mataji Nirmala Devi World Sahaja Yoga Foundation, is organised by the international theatre company Theatre of Eternal Values.

At the centre of the Culture of the Spirit Festival, is integration. "This year the theme is the search for our roots - explains the artistic director, Monia Giovannangeli -. It is a universal path, inspired by spiritual and meditative experience. Going back to the roots is the only way to know ourselves deeply, to restore our potential; the beauty we can express. It is a means of rediscovering our cultural origins, which constitute the great wisdom of communities. The roots allow us to connect earth and sky, to awaken in us stability and magnetism. They make us as children, safe and innocent in the arms of their mother.”

The programme ranges from the exuberance of flamenco to the spirituality of Hindustani ragas, from the vitality of the pizzica to the solemnity of western classical music, from the magic of Indian dance styles (Kuchipudi, Kathak, Bharatanatyam) to the energy of pop songs, jazz and Carnatic rhythms; from the versatility of folk to the mysticism of the Qawwali songs of Sufi tradition. With exceptional artists such as Rachelle Jeanty, Anandita Basu, Shakthidhar Iyer, Indialucia, Shankar Battacharya, Giridhar Udupa, Marie-Joëlle and Kenny Clarys. The main event is on Saturday evening at 9.30 pm: a classical music extravaganza with the Divine Symphony Orchestra directed by Carlo Gizzi and Franco Giaccosa, which gathers together the main artists of the festival, interweaving various musical genres with Herman Hesse's prose and the poetry of Rabindranath Tagore and Lao Tze. A highlight of the weekend's events is "Our Roots", a conference with Alganesh Fessaha, a noted Italian-Eritrean activist and founder-president of the Gandhi NGO, in the forefront of the fight against human trafficking in war zones and a campaigner for women's support and child abuse victims in Europe and Africa, and who was awarded the order of merit of the Republic by President Sergio Mattarella.

The "Culture of the Spirit" Festival attracts thousands of visitors each year in the beautiful natural setting of Val Borbera. Guests can also experience Sahaja Yoga meditation, visit art exhibitions and handicraft stalls, relax on the meadows, swim in the river. A large space is dedicated to children. Entrance is free and open to everyone. The complete program, artists info and media are available on the Cultureofthespirit.com website and the FB CulturadelloSpirito page.
